Caring About Our Neighborhood

Pittsburgh Cares’ Youth Advisory Council is a development and engagement program with a core-group of 15 high school students that are committed to serve as ambassadors for positive social change in their schools and community. The program occurs year-long and the students focus on enhancing their leadership skills by participating in monthly workshops and trainings.

The topics covered during the program include effective communication skills, public speaking, conflict resolution and time management. The students also participate in a monthly group service project with local nonprofits and identify and develop best practices to promote volunteerism in their community. Through this initiative, the students can apply to receive $500-$1000 in mini-grants that enable them to purchase supplies and materials needed to lead the project in their school or community.
